Elisabeth Moss is delving into the world of comic books with her next role (Picture: Vertigo/Rex Features) She’s one of the most in-demand female leads in Hollywood thanks to her incredible CV, and a string of award-worthy roles. And following on from her Golden Globe-winning performance in The Handmaid’s Tale, Elisabeth Moss is set to throw herself into a gritty pop culture fest, taking on a starring role in the comic book film The Kitchen. Joining Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish, the 35-year-old Mad Men star will take on the meaty big screen adaptation of Vertigo’s female-fronted crime series of the same name.
Set in in Hell’s Kitchen, New York, in the 1970s, The Kitchen follows the lives of Irish mobsters’ wives who end up taking over and running the business after the FBI throws their husbands behind bars – Stepford Wives this is not! New Line, who have landed the rights to the comic, considered multiple actors to star opposite Haddish and McCarthy as the third and final lead, with Moss ultimately winning. Not hard to see why when you look at her CV.
Vertigo’s comic The Kitchen follows the lives of Irish mob wives who end up taking over and running the business after the FBI throws their husbands behind bars – Stepford Wives this is not! (Picture: Vertigo) Details on how close the film will stick to the comics is yet to be gleaned, but The Hollywood Reporter states McCarthy will play an adoring mother who leads the women’s charge to take over the’ ‘interests’ of the men, while Haddish will portray a woman willing to kill anyone in the way of her plan.
Elisabeth will play a timid wife of an abusive husband who falls in love with the violence of her new life.
