https://www.vogue.com/article/sadie-sink-undercover-fall-2018

If there were one brand worthy of the spine-chilling strangeness of The Upside Down, it would surely be Undercover. Since launching his label in 1990, Jun Takahashi has made a habit of taking the mundane and infusing it with an uncanny magic. Last season, he did it by nodding to horror film tropes, outfitting models in replicas of the Grady twins blue dresses from The Shining. This season, Takahashi’s inspiration was the idea of an eternal youth, and his muse was none other than Stranger Things’s Sadie Sink.

Sink opened the show in a red sweatsuit with a crystal-trim beanie. She was followed by models in slim ties, curled-hem anoraks, and wellies that read “We are infinite.” On the whole, the collection was infused with a collegiate spirit, with Takahashi giving traditional navy rowing blazers and sporty polo shirts his signature subversions. (The piece most worthy of The Upside Down Award for Freakiest Accessory is the beanie worn with Look 18, made of braided blonde hair—extensions, we hope.) Sink appeared again in a green coach’s jacket and at the close of the show to lead a pack of models in graphic anoraks.

For the 15-year-old actress, this marks her first runway turn, though she’s no stranger to the step-and-repeat of a red carpet.
As much as we loved seeing one of our favorite young actresses on the runway, one has to question the act of casting a 15-year-old girl to represent a clothing collection intended for adults. Yes, it’s a practice that has existed in fashion for decades, but when LVMH, Kering, the CFDA, and Condé Nast have all pledged to not work with models under 16 years of age following a series of shocking sexual harassment claims, the use of an underage girl on the runway can be read as slightly tone-deaf to the larger issues at hand. That said, Sink is a professional actress, and one could call her runway turn a performance in Takahashi’s youthquake-inspired show.
